Swindon Works

Above: three shots taken at the Gas Works dump on 9 October 1960:

Top: 0-4-0ST No. 1361 is stored next to No. W8, a 1936 GWR Diesel railcar.

Middle: 2-6-2T No. 3100, a Collett rebuild of an original Churchward design dating from 1903 stands next to a ‘4500’ class 2-6-2T.  

Bottom: Hawksworth 0-6-0PT No. 1652 heads a line of condemned locos.

Three shots taken around Swindon Works on 29 April 1962:

Top: Condemned 0-6-0PT No. 9703 with condensing apparatus in the reception sidings at the Triangle.   

Middle: ‘7400’ class 0-6-0PT No. 7421 and a Hawksworth 0-6-0PT await their fate outside the main shop at Swindon Works.

Bottom: 2-6-2T No. 6101 awaits the cutter’s torch in Swindon’s concentration yard. To the rear are Mogul No. 6302, ‘Castle’ No. 5004, ‘Hall’ No. 4957, and ‘2200’ class 0-6-0 No. 2216.
